Art Gallery Of Sudbury

[B.Arch 03] - The art gallery of Sudbury was an adaptive reuse project, the existing site was home to the original Roy‘s Furniture which has been a locally owned family-run business in Sudbury for over 65 years. The existing three-story brick building was preserved in the front facade of the new gallery with contrasting black panelling, the west facade was taken down and replaced with a fully glazed curtain wall to create a large atrium space from the ground to the fifth floor of the building the brick from the existing wall was used to create the structure for the living wall on the other side of the atrium. The gallery itself houses 6 different gallery spaces, an administration floor, artist studio, art education space, a multipurpose space, art Store, and Café. The large atrium which is the central corridor is used to collect heat from the upper floors and redirect it among different rooms within the building, there is also an automatic shading system that allows the heat to be blocked in the summer, and there is also a ground heat exchanger and Solar panel system.
